nintendo_switch_gamingWhen it comes to gaming hardware, there are many different components to think about when it comes to making a game run silky smooth. The most obvious might be its processor speed and cores, then another obvious choice would be the graphics card and how much VRAM there is, but RAM also plays a pretty important role.

The good news is that the Nintendo Switch will not be short on RAM, or at least compared to its predecessor, the Wii U. According to a tweet by Emily Rogers, she revealed that the Switch will reportedly come with 4GB of RAM, which is double that of the Wii U. Now apparently the 4GB of RAM was first spotted in the developer kits, but Rogers has “confirmed” that the 4GB will also be making its way to the retail version.

4GB might seem a bit small especially when you consider that there are actually phones these days with more RAM than that. However just like Apple’s iPhone, Nintendo pretty much controls the hardware and software of the console, meaning that they have optimized their games so that 4GB of RAM will be enough to run it, but whether or not third-party developers will struggle with the limitations remains to be seen, especially if they’re bringing games over from the PS4 or Xbox One, both of which pack 8 GB of RAM.

So far what we know about the Switch based on rumors is that it will also have a 6.2-inch 720p touchscreen display and a “standard” cartridge size of 16GB. More details are expected to be revealed come 12th of January, 2017.
