oneplus_3_002A report from a couple of days ago suggested that due to OnePlus’ struggle to meet the demands for the OnePlus 3, that the company will be opting to discontinue the phone and create an upgraded model in the form of the OnePlus 3S. It was also rumored that instead of AMOLED, they will be going with the use of LCD.

However the LCD rumors have since been debunked by OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei who said that the company will be sticking with Optic AMOLEDs for the foreseeable future. This led us to wonder if the rumors of the OnePlus 3S could be false too? Maybe not, thanks to a recent sighting on China’s CCC in which a mysterious OnePlus handset was listed.

According to the listing, it revealed that OnePlus had a phone in the works that would come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 chipset, indicating that this is a brand new device. The model number of the phone is A3010 and given the OnePlus 3 has the model number A3000, the slight increase in the model number suggests that this is more of a minor upgrade rather than a major one.

To be fair, Pei has not dismissed rumors of a possible OnePlus 3S, so while the LCD rumors are no longer true, the OnePlus 3S could very well continue to exist. In any case there is no word on when this alleged device will be announced so we’ll just have to take this with a grain of salt and keep our eyes peeled for more info in the future.
