Proper virtual reality headsets like the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive need to be hooked up to a powerful PC. Since VR headsets are becoming popular, PC makers are now starting to market their compatible notebooks as “VR-ready.” Origin PC has unveiled one such notebook today. The EVO15-S from Origin PC features what it claims is a “VR-ready” graphics processor, the latest GTX 1060 GPU from NVIDIA.
It was only a few months ago when NVIDIA said that its GTX 1000 series graphics cards will soon be available in laptops. One major advantage of this series is that it enables PC makers to create thinner and lighter gaming laptops and Origin takes full advantage of that.
The EVO15-S is only 0.69 inches thick and comes with an Intel Core i7 6700HQ Skylake processor with 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD with an additional 2TB hard drive, multicolor back-lit keyboard, and more. The company will allow customers to opt for custom designs and laser engraving on the notebook’s lid.
It’s not the only notebook that offers NVIDIA’s VR-ready GPUs. The EVO15-S joins Razer’s Blade notebook which also features the same GPUs and happens to be even thinner at 0.66 inches.
The Origin PC EVO15-S costs $2,080 and it’s readily available for purchase.
