Skype has built some great translation features. It’s capable of translating text in dozens of languages and it can translate eight spoken languages in real-time. Today it’s adding another to the list. Skype has confirmed that spoken Russian translation is now supported. It’s already supported in the 50-plus languages that Skype is already able to provide text-to-text translation for.

Russian happens to be the eighth most popular spoken language in the world and it points out that users have been particularly excited about getting support for this language. Skype says it has received many requests over the past few months to add support for Russian.

Skype has now opened up “one of the most dialectically complex languages on earth” to anyone and everyone with a Skype account. The technology behind it enables users to communicate with each other in real-time even if they don’t speak the same language.

Users can now try out Russian or any of the other supported languages by clicking on the globe icon in the Windows Desktop Skype to launch Skype Translator. It’s a free service so why not take it for a spin.

English, Spanish, French, German, Chinese (Mandarin), Italian, Portuguese (Brazilian), and Arabic are already supported for real-time spoken translations.
