skype logoWhen Apple announced iOS 10, one of the main changes that they instituted was opening Siri up to third-party apps. Prior to that, Siri was pretty much limited in terms of functionality because for the most part, it only worked with Apple’s apps and services. With iOS 10, we started to see more third-party apps, such as WhatsApp, take advantage of that.

Recently it seems that Microsoft’s Skype is also taking advantage of Apple opening up Siri to third-party developers, and in a recent update, they have made it so that users can send messages to their Skype contacts using Siri. In the latest update that bumps the app up to version 6.27.1, “We are constantly working to make Skype better for you. With this new update you can send Skype messages to your Skype contacts using Siri.”

Using the feature isn’t particularly complicated or tricky, so just update the app, fire up Siri, and you’ll be good to go. We expect that over time, more apps will start to take advantage of Siri and integrate its service into their apps, but for now it does seem to be a tad slow in terms of adoption. We also know that Apple is working to improve Siri and last we heard, they were turning to Japan for some help in that department.
