galaxy-note-7-s-pen_03-on-screenJust when you think that Samsung’s recall of the Galaxy Note 7 is all but settled, for some inexplicable reason there have been reports of users experiencing problems with the replacement units. The most recent case is when a replaced Note 7 caught on fire on board a Southwest plane, which obviously does not bode well for Samsung.

Now Samsung and carriers have allowed Note 7 owners to exchange their handsets for new units, or to a different Samsung phone like the Galaxy S7/S7 Edge, but now it seems that Sprint is allowing customers to swap to whatever device they like, even if it means moving out of the Android ecosystem and to the iPhone 7/7 Plus.

According to a report from Recode, a Sprint rep told them, “If a Sprint customer with a replacement Note 7 has any concerns regarding their device, we will exchange it for any other device at any Sprint retail store during the [CPSC’s] investigation window.” No doubt this is not good news for Samsung as it could mean many customers leaving their brand.

The company has stated that they are looking into the phone that caught on fire, and it seems that they’re not alone as the CPSC are also looking to the issue as well.
