Frequent delays in deliveries have remained a frequent problem for Tesla but it finally appears to be on the path to increase its electric car deliveries. The company formally revealed the official delivery figures yesterday. A press release sent out by Tesla shows that its electric car deliveries have jumped by more than 70 percent sequentially to more than 24,500 units.

Tesla has delivered 24,500 electric cars in its fiscal Q3 so far this year. The breakdown it provided shows that it delivered 15,800 Model S and 8,700 Model X cars. Tesla has registered a 70 percent sequential increase in deliveries, up from just 14,402 total deliveries in Q2.

The company points out that the latest numbers are low estimates since it only counts a delivery when the car is actually delivered to the customer and all of the paperwork has been handled.

Tesla said that 5,500 cars are still “in transit” to customers but they have not been counted in the total for Q3 2016, those units will be reflected in the count for the next quarter. Tesla anticipates that the numbers for Q4 will either be “at or slightly above” Q3 2016.

Despite the impressive increase, Tesla still has a long way to go before it meets co-founder and CEO Elon Musk’s target of producing 500,000 cars every single year by 2018. Tesla is gunning for the ability to produce one million of its all-electric cars by 2020.
