Verizon doesn’t really like unlimited data even though customers are more than happy to pay for the privilege. However, the carrier is open to selling it to customers with a few strings attached. Verizon PopData is a new option from Big Red through which it’s selling unlimited data in 30 minute increments for $2. Customers can get an hour’s worth of unlimited data by paying $3.

PopData is basically an unlimited data pass that you buy for a short period of time. It will come in handy when you’re trying to download large files or want to watch Netflix in HD without having to worry about finishing your entire data allotment for the month.

It’s far from a proper offering, though. Most users wouldn’t want to go through the hassle of paying $2 or $3 through the carrier app every single time they want to have unlimited cellular data. There’s no convenience in it for customers who are already paying Verizon for their phone and service.

Verizon is marketing this new offering as a way to “escape the bounds of public Wi-Fi” and “stream at the speed of our 4G LTE network,” but the fact remains that most users will just be happy with proper unlimited data and as it stands, Verizon seems to be in no mood of giving its customers what they want.
