whatsapp-gifWhatsApp has always been a rather straightforward app. You send and you receive messages, that’s it. However in recent times, WhatsApp has included more features such as voice calling, and recently the app allows users to edit photos by adding stickers and doodling on it.

Now it seems that in the latest beta of WhatsApp, the company has decided to add the ability to send GIFs. This will require users to have the latest beta of WhatsApp which is version 2.16.293, so if you don’t have that downloaded then don’t be surprised if you don’t see the option to send GIFs to your friends.

WhatsApp will even create a special folder called WhatsApp Animated GIFs. Right now it seems that users will have to find their own GIFs if they want to send one. This is versus the likes of Facebook Messenger where users get to pick from Giphy’s repositories, but hopefully this is something WhatsApp can look into in the future.

Alternatively users can always download the Giphy Keyboard if they want access GIFs. Note that this is only the beta of WhatsApp and there’s no word on when the final version will be released, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled for it.
