amazon-signOne of the upsides from purchasing from retailers like Amazon is that for the most part, you can rest assured that what you’re buying is the real deal. After all many companies understand that their reputation is important, so having customers trust them is clearly a big deal. Unfortunately sometimes fakes do slip through the cracks, as Apple has previously warned.

Now it seems that according to a report from Bloomberg, Amazon is looking to get serious about counterfeit products being sold on their platform and that will be one of their main goals for 2017. While Amazon has yet to confirm, Bloomberg claims that their sources have told them that Amazon has been building teams in the US and Europe and are working with major brands to create a registry of recognized sellers.

We’re not sure how this will work out, but we can only imagine it will be similar to verified accounts on Twitter, or in Amazon’s case it would verify that this seller is a seller of genuine products. In a statement made to Bloomberg, Amazon said, “Amazon has zero tolerance for the sale of counterfeit items on our site.”

Amazon is also said to have been trialing this new registry with brands such as Nike, where resellers are expected to prove that they have the permission to sell the products of the company they claim to represent.
