apple_logoWith Apple’s iPhones being so expensive and are probably the most expensive smartphones in the market today, we’re sure some are wondering how on earth is Apple going to survive in emerging markets such as India? Turns out that there was nothing to worry about as Apple seems to be doing just fine.

According to the latest numbers, it seems that Apple has managed to grab 66% of premium smartphone sales in the country. This means that more than half of the premium smartphone sales in India have gone to Apple. The company’s closest and fiercest rival, Samsung, only managed 23%, while Google only accounted for 10%, and the remaining 1% is attributed to all other brands.

Apple has seen this coming as back in October during the company’s earnings call, CEO Tim Cook told analysts, “Our iPhone sales in India were up over 50 percent in fiscal 2016 compared to the prior year, and we believe we’re just beginning to scratch the surface of this large and growing market opportunity.”

He also added, “The truth is there’s going to be a lot of people there and a lot of people in the middle class that will really want a smartphone, and I think we can compete well for some percentage of those.”
