htc-bolt-12As far as being a smartphone OEM is concerned, unfortunately HTC isn’t quite the same company as it once was. While the company’s products are pretty decent, it seems that it’s quite hard to get out from the shadow of the likes of Samsung and Apple, and let’s not forget the slew of cheap and affordable handsets from Xiaomi, Oppo, and Huawei.

This is why it doesn’t come as a surprise to learn that according to the rumors, word on the street has it that HTC could be considering getting out of the smartphone game. The rumors claim that HTC could be considering selling off its mobile division, and while we’re not sure who might be interested in purchasing the company, some have suggested that maybe it could be a good fit for Google, especially if Google is planning on more Pixel smartphones in the future.

Of course that hardly means that this will be the end of HTC as we know it. The company does have other products, like the HTC Vive, and with the rise of virtual reality we reckon the company could gain some traction there, especially considering that they are one of a few companies with dedicated VR headsets out there.

In any case take it with a grain of salt for now. This isn’t the first time that we heard that HTC could be looking to sell themselves, although nothing concrete has materialized to date, but we’ll keep an eye out for any future developments.
