Samsung today announced that it’s rolling out a new firmware update for the Gear Fit2 activity tracker today. The update comes with key enhancements that will bring new levels of precision and convenience to the wearable device. Users will be automatically notified in their smartphone’s Quick Panel once the update for the Gear Fit2 goes live in their region. They will then be able to install it via the Samsung Gear app starting later today.

The Gear Fit2’s new Auto Pause feature enables the device to recognize when a user who is engaged in a cardiovascular activity like cycling or running suddenly stops. It will thus pause fitness-tracking functions accordingly. Users won’t be required to interact with their device in order to resume the workout, it will pick up right where it left off once the workout is resumed.

The latest firmware update for the Gear Fit2 also expands the number of exercises that the wearable device can automatically register. Activities such as table tennis, basketball, badminton, dancing, and soccer will now be automatically registered by the Samsung Gear Fit2. It tracks these activities using its motion sensor and the session is logged as a Dynamic Workout whenever the user engages in such an activity for more than ten minutes.

Gear Fit2 gets a new Set feature with this update that streamlines management of repetition-based exercises such as star jumps, squats, crunches, and lunges. Users can enter their desired number of repetitions and sets per exercise and the Gear Fit2 will start tallying their progress when they begin.
