nintendo_switch_gamingIf there’s one common perception in the console scene, it would be that if you wanted to play more “serious” games, you would buy a PS4 or an Xbox One, and if you wanted some party/lighthearted game, then you’d go with a Nintendo product. However in the Nintendo Switch’s reveal, it seemed to suggest that Nintendo could be going after a core audience.

For those who have loved Nintendo’s fun and easygoing games, you’ll be pleased to learn that Nintendo won’t be deviating from that. In an interview with Bloomberg, Nintendo’s president Tatsumi Kimishima said, “We have no intention of just going after a certain age group. Depending on the kind of software that comes out, families and kids will be able to play too.”

Speaking about the message of the video, which seems to hint at catering to more core gamers, Kimishima says that this was designed on purpose so that gamers could grasp the idea of the console right away. However he also adds, “Our core philosophy is that we want to increase the number of gamers at all ages, and there’s no change to that. So we have no intention to lean just towards core gamers.”

In the meantime details of the Switch’s hardware specs and features remain scarce. We have heard rumors that the console could feature a 720p HD touchscreen display and will also come with 4GB of RAM, but we’ll have to wait until the 12th of January, 2017 for the official presentation to find out if those rumors are true.
