If you were feeling a bit down because OnePlus decided to effectively make your OnePlus 3 a second-tier device by launching the OnePlus 3T, you can find solace in some good news that the company has confirmed today. OnePlus has already confirmed that both the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T will receive software updates at the same time. It has now confirmed that the OnePlus 3 is going to receive updates as long as the OnePlus 3T does.

What this means is that OnePlus has basically extended the OnePlus 3’s shelf life by six months. New Android devices are normally supported for major updates for at least two years after they’re released.

OnePlus 3T arrives some six months after the OnePlus 3 was released but now that the company has confirmed that both devices will remain tied together as far as software updates are concerned, this means that the OnePlus 3 gets an additional six months of software support.

“The OnePlus 3 will continue to receive updates alongside the OnePlus 3T until the newer device reaches the end of its update life cycle,” is the official word from OnePlus.

OnePlus hasn’t really provided a precise end-of-life date for its latest device but you can be sure that it’s at least going to be around for a couple of years. As long as it’s around, the OnePlus 3 will continue to receive new software updates.
