pbs-playtime-padBack in the day before tablets and smartphones were so prevalent, kids played with physical toys and read books. These days with video games and books being available on tablets, it seems like one device that can do everything does seem like the smarter and more efficient solution.

There are several kid-friendly tablets in the market today, but it seems that PBS has decided to toss their hat into the ring by announcing the Playtime Pad, a tablet that has been designed for children in mind. As you can see, the tablet colorful and bright in its design, and unsurprisingly it also comes bundled with a host of apps and content aimed at children.

This includes PBS Kids Video, PBS Kids Scratch Jr. and PBS Parents Play and Learn, and new content can also be accessed as PBS does plan to keep its apps updated. There are also built-in parental controls that allows parents to select the type of content they want their kids to be exposed to. They will also be able to set usage limits to kids don’t go overboard.

The specs of the tablet are nothing to shout at and it comes with a customized version of Android 6.0 Marshmallow, but then again with it being priced at $80, it does make for a pretty affordable device to get your kids.
