One of the downsides to most voice assistant platforms available today is that they can’t quite understand follow-up questions. This means if you ask for the time in one location, and you ask for the weather, you’ll have to phrase the second question as a brand new question, as opposed to saying, “What’s the weather like there?”
SoundHound’s Hound voice assistant seems pretty adept at follow-up questions, and it looks like Amazon’s Alexa has recently picked up that skill as well. In a post on Reddit, several users have pointed out how Alexa is now capable of understanding follow-up questions that are being asked.
However it seems that it is a bit limited for now as not every follow-up question is understood, but it looks like at least the feature is being implemented. We can only imagine that in the future it will be expanded and improved upon. As it stands Amazon’s Alexa devices are pretty well-received, like the Amazon Echo, for example.
Alexa is also being integrated into a bunch of other third-party devices, so not only does this improve on Alexa, but it also helps to improve the functionality of the devices that it is integrated with. In the meantime if you own an Alexa-enabled device, you can try asking it some follow-up questions if you’re interested in checking out its newfound capabilities.
