super_mario_run_androidDespite it being shown off on an iPhone and with it being an exclusive to iOS devices at the start, Nintendo has long confirmed that Super Mario Run would eventually find its way onto Android. It was unclear as to when exactly that would be, but it was suggested that it would be in 2017.

The good news is that it appears to be sooner rather than later. In a tweet by Nintendo of America, it looks like Android gamers will now be able to pre-register for the game. Basically what this means is that gamers can register their interest and be notified when the game is ready for download.

However like we said, Nintendo still has yet to confirm when exactly this will be taking place, so we can only assume that with pre-registrations starting now that its release shouldn’t be too far off. Maybe we could be looking at a 1st of January, 2017 release, or maybe later, who knows? Either way if you are interested you can pre-register your interest at the Google Play Store.

In the meantime reviews of the game have been mixed. While some reviews are positive about the fact that Nintendo has finally brought such a beloved character to mobile, others have criticized its $10 price tag to unlock all the levels, and the fact that it requires users to have an always-on internet connection, which is admittedly rather silly for a game that’s pretty much single-player.
