Apple isn’t just trying to get its hands on exclusive music launches to get people to sign up and pay for its music streaming service. It’s also creating compelling content on its own to bring in more subscribers. The Apple Music 808 documentary has gone live today. It features some of the biggest names in the industry, including but not limited to Pharrell, Phil Collins, and more.

Classic hip-hop music from the ’80s and the ’90s is still much loved by countless people across the globe. Perhaps many might not be aware just how big of a role the Roland TR-808 drum machine played in that era to enable musicians to do what they did best.

The Apple Music 808 documentary explains to us just how the Roland TR-808 drum machine shaped the music of that era and why its importance needs to be recognized and understood. It gets the point across by featuring conversations with some big artists and producers.

This documentary features the likes of Pharrell Williams, Questlove, the Beastie Boys as well as producers Arthur Baker and Rick Rubin. Rappers Soul Sonic Force and T La Rock make an appearance as well and so do Phil Collins, Goldie, Hank Shocklee, and others.

Apple Music 808 documentary is available for streaming via the service exclusively right now. It’s going to be released on iTunes come December 16th.
