ipad_pro_001One of the partnerships between tech companies and sports in recent times would be Microsoft, in which we saw the company’s Surface tablets being used by the NFL. The idea is that this would make it easier to watch replays and to come up with new strategies on the fly. It seems that Apple also wants in on the sporting scene.

According to a report from TSN, they have been told by their sources that Apple and the NHL (National Hockey League) are close to finalizing a partnership in which Apple’s iPads will be used during games behind the bench. Presumably the idea is that same as Microsoft’s Surface tablets and the NFL.

Apparently these talks have been going on for the past few years now and the NHL has apparently approached by both Apple and Microsoft, but from what we can tell, it sounds like Apple could be closer to clinching this deal than Microsoft, assuming Microsoft is still even in the running.

One of TSN’s sources said, “The NHL Apple deal is more a major partnership than a sponsorship. Right now, some teams have iPads or other tablets and some don’t. Some have good Internet connections, some don’t. This deal is about having a consistent platform that every team can use in every rink.”
