google-play-apps-gamesApps is short for applications, which is another term used for software, and since video games are considered pieces of software, it makes sense that they fall under the apps category, right? However as spotted by Android Police, it seems that Google is testing out the idea of separating apps and games in the Google Play Store.

As you can see, there are now separate tabs for Apps and Games, and for those wondering what’s the point, basically it keeps things neater. For example within video games there are plenty of sub genres, like action, roleplaying, arcade, simulation, puzzles, and more. This means that had they been clumped together, users would have to navigate several layers to get to where they want.

By keeping them separate, it makes things a lot clearer, plus it will help to clean the charts in which games can now have their own top charts, like top paid games, top free games, and so on. We suppose this doesn’t really change the way the Play Store is used, but for those who are wishing for a neater layout, this could be it.

Unfortunately it seems that for now the changes are made available to everyone. It is possible that Google is testing them out so we may or may not see the changes, especially if Google decides not to go with it.
