It was reported recently that perhaps HTC might launch the second-generation of its Vive headset at the Consumer Electronics Show 2017 in the first week of January. The assumption made sense since the company is rumored to launch the HTC Vive 2 in the coming year. It remains to be seen when the headset will be launched but it has now been confirmed that it won’t be launched at CES 2017. HTC itself has confirmed this by way of a statement.

In a statement provided to UploadVR, HTC confirmed that the HTC Vive 2 launch is not going to take place at the Consumer Electronics Show 2017. It said that “There is no truth to the rumor of launching Vive 2 at CES 2017.”

There certainly no wiggle room in that statement. The company adds that “At Vive, we are laser focused on building out a strong and growing ecosystem for current and future Vive owners so they can experience the best room-scale VR with the most compelling content available.”

HTC hasn’t confirmed its plans for the second-generation headset as yet. It merits mentioning here that the company has scheduled an event on January 12th where it’s going to make some big product announcements. Whether it’s going to say something about the second-generation Vive at that event remains a mystery.

What we do know for sure now is that we shouldn’t keep our fingers crossed for a Vive-related announcement at CES 2017.
