samsung-gear-vr-2016_usb-c_09If you’ve enjoyed Samsung’s VR offerings in the form of the Gear VR, you might be interested to learn that the company has two new VR headsets in the works that will be announced soon. This was revealed during the Virtual Reality Summit in San Diego where Samsung Electronics VP Dr. Sung-Hoon Hong revealed the company’s future plans.

According to Hong, there is a headset in the works called the Gear VR 2 that will be “presented in a short time”, and another “Gear VR 3” that will be revealed in 2017. We’re not sure if “in a short time” means 2016 or early 2017, but we’re guessing it’s probably the latter where CES or MWC would make a perfect platform to do the announcement.

He also revealed that Samsung was building two VR engines, although why the need for two engines remains to be seen. That being said, it also seems that Samsung will be looking into developing augmented reality products. Hong was quoted as saying, “AR has much better business development for Samsung. That’s what we are aiming for.”

Exactly what product this will translate to remains to be seen, but it seems that 2017 is definitely going to be an exciting year for Samsung. Either way do check back with us in the near future to see what Samsung has up their sleeves.
