mario-top-chartsYesterday Nintendo announced that Super Mario Run was finally available to download on iOS devices. Given the popularity of the Mario franchise, safe to say that it does not come as a surprise to learn that within a matter of hours, the game has managed to become the iTunes App Store’s top “free” game, as well as the top “top grossing” app.

For those wondering how an app can chart in two categories at once, it is because Super Mario Run is a free download. However to unlock the entire game, players will have to pay $10 in an in-app purchase. Gamers can keep playing it for free, but they’re pretty much limited to the first three levels of the game.

At $10 to unlock, Super Mario Run is definitely not one of the cheaper games around, which also might explain how it achieved “top grossing” so quickly. So far the game has been met with a ton of positive reviews, but there have been a ton of negative reviews as well, although this mostly stems from its $10 price tag and the fact that gamers are required to have an always-on internet connection, making it inconvenient and impossible to play in some situations.

In any case if you have yet to check it out, the game can be downloaded via the iTunes App Store. It is exclusive to iOS devices for now but is expected to arrive on Android devices in 2017.
