blackberry-dtek50Despite BlackBerry no longer being as popular as it once was, safe to say that many were still a little sad to see that the company will no longer be making their own phones. This pretty much marks the end of an era, but it might not necessarily be the end of BlackBerry because if you recall, TCL also announced their plans to make new BlackBerry phones.

In fact in a recent press release, the company has pledged to keep the BlackBerry legacy alive and well, and will do that by launching new phones at CES 2017. According to Steve Cistulli, President and General Manager for TCL Communication (TCT), North America, “We’ll unveil more news at CES around our plans, showcasing the legacy of the BlackBerry smartphone brand, while also giving a glimpse into what new BlackBerry smartphones will offer as part of our bold new brand portfolio within TCT.”

He also adds, “These are just the building blocks of our new growth strategy, with additional announcements to come in 2017.” For those unfamiliar with TCL, the company has actually produced a couple of BlackBerry handsets to date, which includes the DTEK50 and DTEK60. Unfortunately these weren’t exactly hits but here’s hoping that 2017 will yield more interesting products.
