The Last of Us was an extremely popular title and while we might have expected that there would be a sequel, it was actually a nice surprise when Sony officially announced the game during the PlayStation Experience that took place over this weekend, so yes folks, The Last of Us Part 2 is official.

In a post on the PlayStation Blog by Neil Druckmann, “Like many of you, we have a deep love for the world of The Last of Us and its characters, and while a sequel may have seemed like a foregone conclusion, that wasn’t the case. We knew that it needed to be a story worth telling and, perhaps more importantly, a story worthy of Joel and Ellie. After spending years on different ideas (and almost giving up), we finally uncovered a story that felt special—a story that evolved into an epic journey.”

Unfortunately apart from revealing it and the trailer, Druckmann notes that the project is still in the early stages of development which means that a release date cannot be confirmed yet. However so far from what have seen, the trailer is impressive and we can’t wait to see what the final product will be like, and presumably the game has been made for both the PS4 and PS4 Pro in mind.

In any case if you have a few minutes to spare, you can check out the trailer in the video above.
