It has long been rumored that Warner Bros. Montreal has been working on a Suicide Squad game. According to a new report published today, this unannounced Suicide Squad game has now been canceled. Apparently the decision to cancel the game was made earlier this month. The studio is now said to be focusing on its other big project which is a new Batman game that stars Damian Wayne.
The studio – Warner Bros. Montreal – is commonly known for its work on Arkham Origins. The game was a prequel to the Arkham series that was released back in 2013. It has not released any new games since but the end of Origins did tease the possibility of a Suicide Squad game.
It was believed that perhaps the game will be released alongside the Suicide Squad movie that came out earlier this year in August but Warner Bros. did not even mention such a title at that time.
Kotaku cites three people familiar with the studio who say that Warner Bros. Montreal has canceled the unannounced Suicide Squad game. This game was reportedly in development for a little more than two years. Rumors about its existence have been around for just as long.
The report mentions that this was supposed to be a co-op game and that Warner Bros. management was not impressed by it during greenlight meetings. Thus it was eventually decided to cancel the unannounced Suicide Squad game.
It’s unclear at this point in time if Warner Bros. is ever going to revisit its Suicide Squad game project, it’s basically dead for now.
