Voice assistant platforms at the moment can do a lot of things for us, such as schedule meetings, set alarms, order a Uber, call for a pizza, send messages, and so on. However what if in the future voice assistants could do more complex tasks? What if in the future all you had to do was sit back and use your voice to edit photos?

That’s the kind of future that Adobe is looking into. In a recent video published by Adobe Research, it seems that the company is exploring the idea of using voice to edit photos with. Given that Adobe’s photo editing software can feel intimidating with all the various tools and features, using your voice to tell it to make edits will certainly help break down some barriers.

According to Adobe, “Our Adobe Research team is exploring what an intelligent digital assistant photo editing might look like. To envision this, we combined the emerging science of voice interaction with a deep understanding of both creative workflows and the creative aspirations of our customers. Our speech recognition system is able to directly accept natural user voice instructions for image editing either locally through on-device computing or through a cloud-based Natural Language understanding service.”

However as it stands it seems that this is more of a concept than an actual feature that Adobe will incorporate into future products, but as Adobe puts it, “This is a first step towards a robust multimodal voice-based interface which allows our creative customers to search and edit images in an easy and engaging way using Adobe mobile applications.”
