It appears that a lot of people went on the App Store to buy apps and games to wrap up 2016. Apple has shared some interesting figures with the public today which reveal that New Years 2017 was the biggest sales day ever for the App Store. Apps and games worth more than $240 million were purchased in a single day by tens of millions of users across the globe.

Apple confirms that New Year’s Day 2017 was the single biggest day ever for the App Store. iOS users spent more than $240 million on apps and games. That is an incredible achievement for the company which has continued to improve the App Store as a platform over the years.

The company also revealed that more than $20 billion were paid out to developers during 2016, registering a 40 percent increase from 2015. This means that a staggering total of $60 billion has been paid to developers ever since the App Store was launched back in 2008. The bulk of this revenue was generated from the United States, China, Japan, and the United Kingdom.

Apple continues to see improved growth in China where the App Store posted 90 percent year-over-year growth. The App Store’s subscription service surged to $2.7 billion in 2016, a 74 percent improvement over the previous year.
