A rumor has been going around recently that Apple’s retail stores are unable to repair the 2016 MacBook Pro in-store because they don’t have the diagnostic tools required for the job. According to a new report, Apple Stores are fully capable of repairing the new MacBook Pros. It says that all of the stores have the necessary equipment and trained staff to work on the notebooks.

The rumor has been making waves online for over a week now. It detailed several utilities and tools required to run diagnostics on the 2016 MacBook Pro that were apparently not available in Apple Stores and even at other authorized service centers.

“Apple stores have all of the software and hardware they need to successfully accomplish repairs on the new MacBook Pro,” AppleInsider claims to been told by people within Apple corporate, who added that “We do, at our discretion, utilize depot-level facilities for repair on both iOS devices and Macs that may be beyond the scope of a local Apple store for any reason, including volume in-store.”

It was said that the “Apple Service Toolkit” was due to be updated on December 13th, 2016 but hadn’t been updated yet to include the new notebooks. Inquiries from retail store staff at high-volume store locations revealed that trained staff was indeed present at the locations and all tools were available to perform diagnostics and repairs.
