google-pixel-xl_17Google’s Nexus phones were never really known for their cameras. They weren’t terrible but neither were they anything to brag about, at least not until more recent iterations where Google started to pay more attention to it. With the Pixel handsets, Google seems to have taken its cameras very seriously which resulted in a phone with an excellent camera.

Now if you’re more of a BlackBerry fan, you might be interested to learn that the upcoming BlackBerry “Mercury” is rumored to sport the same camera sensor as the Pixel. This is according to a tweet by WinFuture’s Roland Quandt (via 9to5Google) who was quoted as saying, “BlackBerry “Mercury” has a Sony IMX378 camera sensor on the rear – 12MP, 4K video, same as Google Pixel/Pixel XL f.ex. (1/2)”

Note that while the same sensor will be used, your resulting images might not necessarily be of the same quality either. This is because in addition to the sensor, other aspects such as the lens, its aperture, and also the image processing software all add up towards the final image, but we guess sporting the same sensor is a good start.

The BlackBerry ‘Mercury’ was recently teased for an unveiling at MWC 2017 which kicks off next month, so be sure to check back with us then for the details.
