Pokemon Go quickly became popular across the globe when it was launched last year. Tens of millions of people across the globe play the game every single day. They venture out in the world to try and capture Pokemon, so it’s not only fun but also encourages exercise. However, Niantic, The Pokemon Company, and Nintendo are not going to be able to take advantage of the huge Chinese market because the country has decided to ban Pokemon Go due to concerns about safety and security.

With a popular of more than 1.3 billion people, one can only imagine the opportunities that the Chinese market presents, but breaking into that market is difficult since the government maintains strict control.

The government has decided not to allow Pokemon Go to be licensed which means that it won’t be released in China. It has made this decision due to serious concerns about safety and security. Reuters reports that Pokemon Go was reviewed by the country’s state sensor and concluded that the game presents a “threat to transport and the personal safety of consumers.”

The review also flagged “geographical information security” as one of the reasons why Pokemon Go won’t be released in the country. Since the government has declined to award a license to Pokemon Go, this means that similar games will also not be allowed in China, even the ones that are being developed in the country itself.
