htc-logo-sketchOn the 12th of January, HTC is expected to host an event called “For U”. It is unclear as to what the event might be about, but now we might have an inkling. In a tweet by famed leakster @OnLeaks, he has revealed that the upcoming event will play host to a new phone announcement in the form of the HTC U Ultra.

He notes that he got a tip from an unverified source, so take it with a grain of salt for now. However @OnLeaks has in the past been pretty decent with his rumors, so hopefully he’ll get this right this time. He also points out that the HTC U Ultra will apparently be the official name for the rumored HTC Ocean Note.

The HTC Ocean Note has been rumored about before and apparently it will feature a 5.5-inch to 5.7-inch display, but @OnLeaks claims that his source has told him that the HTC U Ultra will apparently sport a 6-inch display, thus dispelling the previous rumors. If that is true, the handset will be quite massive compared to the competition.

He also reiterates that the handset will be ditching the 3.5mm headphone jack, which honestly shouldn’t be surprising since quite a few handset OEMs have already done so. No word on what the rest of the specs will be, so do check back with us on the 12th of January for the official details, if there are any to be had.
