We’re bound to see a lot of rumors and reports before Apple unveils the iPhone 8 later this year. It’s likely going to be a major update given that it’s the iPhone’s 10th anniversary this year. Word on the street is that Apple is going to commemorate the launch of this iconic product by coming out with the iPhone 8 that will feature a 5.8 inch wraparound display with embedded sensors.

Analyst Timothy Arcuri of Cowen and Company actually believes that Apple is going to launch three new iPhone models later this year. One of those models is said to feature a wraparound 5.8 inch OLED display. The others might have a 4.7 inch and 5.5 inch display.

It’s claimed that Apple hasn’t decided if it will go with the OLED display in the smaller models as well, apparently its decision is contingent on Samsung’s ability to provide that many OLED panels. Previous reports suggest that only the 5.8 inch model will have an OLED display.

A wraparound display would mean that key components like the Touch ID fingerprint sensor, earpiece, infrared sensor, and front camera will be embedded into the display itself. Some form of facial and gesture recognition is expected to be added to the handset as well. Wireless charging may be onboard too.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard reports of a big iPhone with an OLED display said to be due later this year and this certainly isn’t the last but it’s too soon to be sure right now if that’s really what Apple has in the pipeline.
