lg-g5_hands-on_25The LG G6 is expected to be LG’s flagship for 2017, or at least the first half of 2017. This means we can expect it to pack the latest and most powerful hardware possible, but it seems that might not necessarily be the case. According to a report from Forbes, the LG G6 might not be packing Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 chipset.

Why is this? According to their sources, it seems that Samsung has first dibs on the Snapdragon 835, which based on this would suggest that the upcoming Galaxy S8 will be featuring the chipset, or at least one of its variants will. Their source is quoted as saying, “The Snapdragon 835 won’t be available in large quantities until after the Galaxy S8 launches.”

What this means for LG is that either supply for the LG G6 will be extremely constrained at the start while LG tries to secure as much Snapdragon 835 chips as possible, or LG could be going with an older piece of technology, or maybe they might opt for a different manufacturer like MediaTek.

As it stands LG’s last release was the LG V20 which came with a Snapdragon 820. LG could turn to that or maybe the slightly newer Snapdragon 821, but since these are just rumors do take it with a grain of salt. Either way all will be revealed come 26th of February where LG will be hosting a press conference of their own.
