Vertu today introduced its new Android Marshmallow powered luxury handset called the Constellation. The company says this smartphone is aimed at the “global traveller” as it has dual-SIM functionality and support for 34 international bands and protocols. That global traveller needs to be loaded as well because Vertu smartphones aren’t exactly cheap.
Constellation is the first Vertu smartphone to feature dual-SIM support. The company says that it acknowledges that most of its customers live and travel across multiple countries which is why it has added this feature to the handset. Vertu complements this with global Wi-Fi access from the world’s largest Wi-Fi network, iPass.
Vertu Constellation touts a 5.5 inch WQHD AMOLED display protected by a solid section of 6th generation sapphire crystal. Vertu has even crammed in Dolby Digital Plus virtual surround sound processing and front-facing stereo speakers for “exceptional acoustic performance.”
There’s a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor under the hood hooked up to 4GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage. It has a 3,220mAh battery, USB Type-C port, and wireless charging. The handset also features a 12 megapixel rear camera with large 1.55µm pixels for enhanced performance in low light conditions.
All of this is packed inside a body adorned with soft leather, finished in a variety of colors. The leather is sourced from a specialist family-run tannery in Italy.
Vertu says that the Constellation will be available from its boutiques by mid-February but it hasn’t confirmed the price as yet. Given that its smartphones normally cost thousands of dollars, the Constellation won’t be any different.
