shield-tablet-review-11For users of the NVIDIA SHIELD tablet, you’ll be pleased to learn that in the coming weeks, the Android 7.0 Nougat update for the device should be rolling out to the tablet. This is according to a post on Google+ (via Android Police) in which an NVIDIA rep said, “SHIELD Tablet will be getting an update in a few weeks”.

No exact dates have been mentioned but like we said, it should be arriving in the next few weeks so owners of the device will want to keep an eye out for it. The original NVIDIA SHIELD tablet was launched back in 2014. They then re-released the tablet and rebranded it as the SHIELD Tablet K1 in 2015 where for the most part it kept the same hardware with some minor revisions.

Given that the comment on Google+ was in response to a user asking about the K1, we can only assume that this update is meant for the K1, but we’ll have to wait and see if this covers the original SHIELD Tablet as well. NVIDIA was reportedly working on a successor to the K1 but back in 2016, we heard that it had been cancelled by way of a dismissal request letter sent to the FCC.

The letter said that the device had been cancelled due to business reasons, but no further details were revealed.
