Logan is one of the most highly anticipated movies to come out this year. This is likely to be Hugh Jackman’s last outing as Wolverine so fans are going to have high expectations. The final Logan trailer was released recently and it leaves enough to the imagination to create the perfect kind of hype for this new film. There were reports that Logan won’t be like previous Wolverine movies and that has now been confirmed. Logan has officially been assigned an “R” rating for the reasons explained below.

Director James Mangold confirmed the official Logan movie rating via Twitter. He confirmed that the MPAA has officially assigned an R rating to the upcoming X-Men movie due to “strong brutal violence and language throughout, and for brief nudity.”

It’s not surprising to see that Logan has been assigned an R rating since that was the objective in the first place. The director claimed that even the lead actor Hugh Jackman told a pay cut to ensure that the film could receive this rating.

The decision to push for an R rating could have been motivated by last year’s smash anti-superhero hit Deadpool which also carried a similar rating. Fox would certainly be hoping that Logan emulates that success.

It does leave the door open to future X-Men movies being developed with an R rating in mind and I’m sure there will be many fans who don’t mind that one bit.
