overwatch-sombraFor the longest time ever, Blizzard’s games have largely revolved around its three main franchises: Warcraft, StarCraft, and Diablo. It was only last year that Blizzard expanded their lineup by introducing Overwatch, a brand new FPS shooter that is quite a departure from the games that Blizzard fans are familiar with.

Safe to say it was probably quite nerve wracking for the developer since it would be hard to say if it would be a success or a flop, but in Blizzard’s case their hard work paid off as Overwatch has been met with a ton of positive reviews and high ratings. If you needed more evidence of Overwatch’s success, the game’s official Twitter account has announced that Overwatch has managed to hit the 25 million player mark as of now.

We should point out that this 25 million mark is most probably referring to the number of registered accounts. It is unclear as to what the latest concurrent player numbers are (as in the number of players who are playing at the same time), nor was it revealed as to how many units of the game Blizzard has sold.

However the 25 million is an increase of 5 million from last November, and this also represents a massive leap in the number of players since it was launched back in May 2016. In fact back in June 2016, it was reported that the game had 7 million players, so for it to increase by 18 million in less than a year is truly an impressive feat.
