There is a new Tomb Raider movie in the works that last we heard was scheduled for a release on the 16th of March, 2018. For those who are keeping track of the movie, you’ll be pleased to learn that the movie has since entered into production. This is according to a recent post on Instagram by the film’s director Roar Uthaug.
The upcoming Tomb Raider movie will be a reboot of the movie franchise, kind of like how the video game franchise has also similarly undergone a reboot which has since been met with great success. The film will be starring Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft and it was also recently reported that Daniel Wu will be joining the cast along with Walton Goggins who is also set to play a pretty big role in the film.
While the rebooted Tomb Raider video game has certainly proven to be successful, you would be forgiven if you were a bit skeptical about the movie. After all video game movie adaptations haven’t exactly been successful. Granted movies like Warcraft managed to pull in the big bucks, but we reckon it’s probably thanks to fact that the franchise has a massive fanbase.
Recently the Assassin’s Creed movie which was supposed to be promising and had big names attached to it did not exactly launch to favorable reviews. Will Tomb Raider break that mould? We guess we’ll have to wait until 2018 to find out.
