sonos speakersWith companies such as Google and Amazon creating speakers with voice assistants built into them, it looks like this is a pie that Sonos wants a slice of. In a slightly redacted letter obtained by The Verge, it revealed what the company’s CEO Patrick Spence told employees after he had assumed the position.

According to Spence, basically it sounds like not only he want Sonos speakers to be the ultimate wireless speaker system for music streaming services, it looks like he also wants to stuff all the voice assistant services into their speakers. “We know that life at home requires the support of a variety of services since each family member has their own preferences. We have already proven the ability to do this in an elegant and reliable way with music services. We are going to do the same with voice services, bringing all the services that matter to every home.”

The company’s plan is already being put into action as last year, it was announced that Amazon’s Alexa would be able to control Sonos speakers. We expect that it probably won’t be too long until we see Google Assistant find its way onto the speakers as well, and maybe even Siri one day. Spence also said, “The next few years will define our future as we step into the big leagues – partnering and competing with global leaders like Amazon, Google and (likely) Apple.”

So for Sonos owners out there, it definitely sounds like the future of your speakers and its capabilities will be something to look forward to.
