tostitos-party-bag-hed-2017We can only assume that everyone knows that drinking and driving is a bad thing, especially if you’ve had one too many. This applies to your friends as well in which if you know someone who has drank too much, getting them to leave their keys behind and hailing them a cab or an Uber is probably a safer idea.

So how do you know who’s been drinking? Apart from observing them, it seems that Tostitos has come up with a new party bag that will do the job for you. Created by by Goodby Silverstein & Partners, this new party bag actually comes equipped with a sensor that’s connected to a microcontroller.

It has been calibrated to detect small traces of alcohol in one’s breath, in which if it detects alcohol, the bag’s sensor will turn red and warn the person not to drink and drive. If there is no alcohol, the sensor will remain green (see image above). The bag even comes equipped with NFC so that users can tap their phone against it and it will call them an Uber.

Note that this bag is not a breathalyzer in the sense that it can measure your blood alcohol levels. Instead it detects if there is alcohol in your breath, meaning that having a few sips of wine or a swig of beer should trigger it, despite the fact that you’re still legally allowed to drive, but it’s still a pretty clever idea anyway. Speaking to AdWeek, Frito-Lay’s chief marketing officer Jennifer Saenz said, “Our goal is to remove 25,000 cars from the roads that [Super Bowl] Sunday evening. Whether watching the big game at a friend’s house or at a local bar, a safe ride home is just a few easy taps away.”
