xbox_one_sExclusive titles are what defines a console. For example Sony’s had God of War and Destiny, while Microsoft has had Forza, Gears of War, and Halo, just to name a few. This is well and good but we guess after awhile it does get a bit boring which is why it isn’t surprising that there are some gamers hankering for something new.

The good news is that 2017 is the year of new IPs for Microsoft’s Xbox One platform. In response to a gamer asking whether the Xbox One will be seeing a new IP this year, Xbox head Phil Spencer replied (via JustPushStart) by saying, “XB1 games shipping this year are different for us. not Halo FPS/Gears led, new experiences with different IP, will be fun year”.

Basically this year’s IP will not be based around Halo or Gears of War, but exactly what this new IP is remains to be seen. It is more than likely that when Microsoft does get around to showing off its new IP, it will most likely be at E3 2017 which is scheduled for the middle of the year, so don’t expect to learn about it before then.

Microsoft is also expected to release Project Scorpio later this year, which for those unfamiliar is an upgraded version of the Xbox One with beefier hardware. There’s also a good chance that this new IP was probably designed to take advantage of the new hardware, but that’s just speculation on our part, although it wouldn’t exactly be a surprise.
