Sharing videos from YouTube is typically a pretty straightforward process. You copy the link and then send it to your friends or family members by pasting the link in a chat. However it seems that YouTube has decided that maybe it’s time to change the way we share videos and maybe make the experience a bit more social.

Announced on the Canadian Google Blog, YouTube has announced a new way of sharing videos. “Starting today, when opening the YouTube mobile app, signed-in users with a channel will see a brand new Shared tab. Tap the tab and you’ll be able to add your friends and family as contacts, so you can share with them. Not only can you share and receive videos in the app, you can also chat about them right on YouTube, reply with another video, invite others to the conversation, and more.”

Interestingly enough despite YouTube’s claims that this feature is rolling out to Canada first, my YouTube app has been showing the “Shared” tab for a while now and I am not from Canada. It is possible that YouTube was just testing out the features for a handful of users before rolling out mainstream in Canada, which is probably what they meant.

In any case we expect it probably won’t be too long until it finds its way to other countries, so do keep an eye out for it. In the meantime if you are curious about the sharing feature, do check out the video above to see the feature in action.
