ZTE launched Project CSX to crowdsource a smartphone that would appeal to the masses. The project has since been launched on Kickstarter as a crowdfunding campaign that seeks to raise $500,000. While it has received some great suggestions from the public about the features they would like to see on this handset, ZTE has acknowledged that it made a big mistake during the entire process and is now once again looking towards fans for suggestions as it seeks to make big changes to the Hawkeye smartphone.

An adhesive back that enables the phone to stick on any surface and eye-tracking received the most votes from backers so ZTE decided to go with these features in a phone that only had mid-range specifications. It now recognizes that it made a mistake by introducing these features on a mid-range device. It was only after the company released the full specifications of Hawkeye did it find out that backers would rather have flagship-level specs with these features.

The dilemma it faces now is that since an introductory price of $199 has already been set on Kickstarter, it can only change the specs of the device but not the price. It’s now asking backers for suggestions of one or two things that they would opt for to improve the specs of Hawkeye. Options include a next-generation Snapdragon 835 processor instead of the Snapdragon 625, a 3,500mAh battery instead of the 3,000mAh unit, and stock Android OS.

It reminds backers that before they answer this question they have to remember that asking for every potential flagship feature is cost prohibitive now that the price has been set so they should really focus on the things that they care about the most and would like to see on Hawkeye.
