Xperia Z5 Black_groupAbout a week ago it was reported that Sony had a 4K Xperia handset in the works that could be debuted at MWC 2017. Turns out that maybe that might not be the case anymore. A tweet by @Ricciolo1 (who has in the past leaked some mobile-related information) has revealed that the phone could be skipping MWC 2017.

According to his tweet, it would seem to suggest that the handset is real, it’s just that we won’t be looking at a MWC launch and that it could be announced later. He also alluded that it could be shown off in private/secret to maybe Sony’s carrier partners and other executives, but don’t expect a public announcement.

We have to admit that this handset has us intrigued. This is because back in 2015, Sony launched the Xperia Z5 Premium which was marketed as a phone with a 4K display, although the reality is that it was not always 4K and would switch between 4K and lower resolutions depending on the task at hand.

Assuming that this handset is true 4K, Sony could be beating the likes of Samsung, LG, HTC, Motorola, and etc. to the market, although it is a pity as the company had previously stated that they would be lessening their focus in the US market.
