Google was first supposed to launch Android Wear 2.0 last year but the company decided to delay the release as it wanted to take more time to further polish the next iteration of its wearable device platform. It has finally released Android Wear 2.0 and has also worked with LG to launch two new smartwatches that are the first to be powered by it. Some older smartwatches are compatible with the new update but there’s some bad news for ASUS ZenWatch 2 and 3 owners.

It was first confirmed earlier this month that the ASUS ZenWatch 2 and 3 were going to receive the Android Wear 2.0 update. Many would have expected the update to be out in a couple of weeks but that couldn’t be further from the truth.

The official Twitter account for ASUS North America has confirmed in response to a query that the ASUS ZenWatch 2 and 3 Android Wear 2.0 release is not going to start until early in the second quarter of this year.

What this means is that anyone who owns an ASUS ZenWatch 2 or 3 should not expect the update to arrive prior to April 1st because the second quarter of this year runs from April 1st through June 30th. This puts the potential release date over a period of three months with no concrete release date from ASUS. The wait begins.
