The first sequel to the 2007 Halo Wars game is going to be released later this month. Halo Wars 2 is a new real-time strategy game that doesn’t revolve around the conventional RTS strategy of building bases and amassing resources. Players will have to rely on a card-based strategy instead. To hype up the impending launch, the Halo Wars 2 launch trailer has been released today.

The cinematic Halo Wars 2 launch trailer is pretty intense, to say the least, and it sets up the story nicely for the new game. It also introduces some of the main characters in this game, including but not limited to the nefarious Atriox.

Aaron Greenberg, the marketing head at Xbox, has teased on Twitter that fans are going to get “lots of surprises” for Halo Wars 2 this week. Who knows, we might get to see more footage from the title in the days leading up to its release.

Microsoft is also hosting a fan event for Halo Wars 2 in New York later this week. The developers will be present to demonstrate the game and answer questions. Attendees will have opportunities to win many prizes.

Halo Wars 2 is going to be released for Xbox One and PC on February 21st. Those who purchased the $80 Ultimate Edition will be able to start playing the game on February 17. Since this is an Xbox Play Anywhere game, those who purchase it on Xbox One will get a free digital copy for PC and vice versa.
