We’ve known for a very long time now that a standalone Han Solo movie is in the pipeline and yesterday Lucasfilm confirmed that filming has begun as it released a photo of all of the main cast members. Over the past year we’ve been following on news related to casting and other production developments. The studio has now confirmed when the Han Solo movie release is going take place. You’re in for a long ride because since filming has just begun it’s going to take a lot of time for the movie to be finished.

Lucasfilm has confirmed today that the standalone Han Solo movie is going to be released on May 25th, 2018. This is a date that Star Wars fans are quite familiar with.

It was back in 1977 when A New Hope was released on May 25th. The studio has stuck to this date for a very long time as well because, with the exception of The Force Awakens, almost every live action Star Wars film opened in theaters in May.

Alden Ehrenreich stars as Han Solo and Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian. Other cast members include the likes of Emilia Clarke, Woody Harrelson, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Joonas Suotamo in various supporting roles.

We’re certainly going to hear more about the standalone Han Solo movie in the months to come. Until then, fans can start counting down the days to May 25th, 2018.
