HTC has already made a name for itself in the premium virtual reality headset market with the HTC Vive. There have been rumors that the company might be working on a mobile VR solution as well. According to a new report, HTC chief financial officer Chia-lin Chang has confirmed that the company is going to unveil a new mobile VR headset in the coming months. The headset will be compatible with the company’s new U Ultra smartphone.

HTC is only going to unveil the as-yet unnamed mobile virtual reality headset in the coming months. It may not be released before the end of this year. “We have a good plan in terms of combining mobility with VR,” Chang said, adding that “Vive is very top end, and in the coming months you’ll see our plans in terms of mobility and VR, and it’s not a phone slapped onto a headset … It’d be a different thing.”

There have also been rumors that HTC might be interested in making Vive-branded smartphones but that doesn’t appear to be the case, at least at this point in time. The company hasn’t confirmed anything about Vive-branded smartphones as well.

It has now confirmed that a new mobile VR solution is in the pipeline and that it’s going to be a bit different from existing solutions like the Samsung Gear VR. Hopefully, we’ll get to hear more about this mobile VR headset in the near future.
